In a new initiative for 2013-14, Congregation Anshei Israel will offer free tuition and waive the registration fee for its religious school kindergarten. The offer is available to synagogue members and nonmembers alike. Classes will be taught by Renee Hulsey, who was recently named “Outstanding Judaic Educator” by the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona.
The religious school is directed by Assistant Rabbi Ben Herman. “This is a wonderful opportunity for Jewish families,” says Herman, who is excited “to let people see education at our synagogue at the primary age when students are really getting excited about Judaism.”
“We are reaching out to the community,” says Senior Rabbi Robert Eisen, who is involved in the learning process of all enrolled in CAI’s schools, from preschool through adult education programs. “We do want people to feel welcome and to hopefully find the kind of lowered barriers that they’re looking for. We are very excited to offer this gateway to the synagogue in the hopes of enabling everyone to live meaningful Jewish lives.”
Kindergarten students attend class on Sundays, from 9 a.m. to noon. The first day of religious school is Sunday, Aug. 18. To register, go to www.caiaz.org/lifelong-learning/religious-school/ or call 745-5550.
