The Invisible Theatre will begin its 2012-2013 “Season of Love” with the Southwest premiere of “Motherhood Out Loud.”
A series of vignettes covering every aspect of motherhood — from stepmoms to single mothers, immigrant moms to grandmothers, new moms to empty nesters, — “Motherhood Out Loud” was written by a collection of 15 celebrated American writers from theatre, television, fiction and nonfiction, including Beth Henley, who won the Pulitzer Prize in drama for “Crimes of the Heart”; Luanne Rice, bestselling author of 29 novels; and Marco Pennette, who won a Golden Globe and a Writers Guild Award for his work on “Ugly Betty.”
Playwright Michele Lowe contributed “a very touching piece about Purim,” says IT managing artistic director Susan Claassen, who serves as director, producer, set and sound designer for the production.
The play was conceived by Susan R. Rose and Joan Stein. Rose is an award-winning theatrical and film producer whose Broadway credits include “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Hurlyburly” and “Bloodknot.” Stein, who died Aug. 3 at the age of 59, was a Tony Award-winning producer of more than 80 plays and musicals, including “The Miss Firecracker Contest,” “Sideman,” “Forever Plaid” and “Picasso at the Lapin Agile.”
“Motherhood Out Loud” will run Sept. 4-23. Invisible Theatre will serve as a drop-off location for disposable diapers for the Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona during that time. For ticket nformation, call 882-9721 or go toinvisibletheatre.com.
