Maurice Washington Jontow, 98, died Oct. 5, 2012.
Born in New York City, Mr. Jontow left high school in 1929 to work with his father in the family garment business. He met his wife, Rachel, in 1935 and they were married in 1936. Mr. Jontow served in the Army Reserves. He owned a women’s clothing factory, Rabner and Jontow. He was a member of the board of education in West Orange, N.J. Mr. Jontow retired at age 50 and traveled extensively. He lived in San Carlos, Mexico and eventually settled in Tucson.He served for 30 years as a board member for The Fenster School.
Survivors include his children, Robert (Sylvia) Jontow of Rio Rico, Ariz., Arline Schlossberg, Felice Bonhard, Lori (Greg) Rice, all of Tucson; brother, Irving Jontow of Tucson; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Evergreen Mortuary with Rabbi Yossie Shemtov of Chabad of Tucson and Rabbi Samuel M. Cohon of Temple Emanu-El officiating. Interment was in the Temple Emanu-El section of Evergreen Cemetery.
