Allen Lee Baron, 79, died Dec. 14, 2012.
Born Abraham Podolny in the Bronx, N.Y., Mr. Baron attended DeWitt Clinton High School. He graduated from University High School in Los Angeles. He enrolled at UCLA in 1952, joining the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity, but his studies were interrupted by Army service during the Korean War. He returned to UCLA in 1955, and changed his name to Allen Baron, taking the last name of his best friend, Ronnie Baron. He graduated from UCLA in 1958, married Martha Patterson, whom he met at the university, in 1960. They moved to San Francisco for two years before returning to Los Angeles where he was a toy and hobby sales representative and later worked in the Halloween costume industry. He served as board member and president of the Mulholland Tennis Club. The family belonged to Temple Israel of Hollywood. Mr. Baron retired to Tucson in 2004. He was active in Skyline Country Club, Congregation Or Chadash and various bridge clubs. He and Martha volunteered with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for foster children.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Martha; daughters SuĀzanne (Bruce) Helming of Tucson, and Alexandra (Douglas) Frampton of Santa Monica, Calif.; and two grandsons.
Memorial services will be held in Tucson and Los Angeles in January.
