Temple class to stage Shoah article of faith

In conjunction with this year’s Tucson community Yom HaShoah memorials, the Temple Emanu-El Readers Theater, members of the Adult Education Academy’s “So You Think You Can Act” class, will present a staged reading of “Ani Maamin” (“I Believe”) on Saturday, April 30 at 8 p.m.

One of Maimonides’ Thirteen Articles of Faith, “‘Ani Maamin’ was also the song transformed into a hymn by pious and obstinate Jews in the ghettos and camps,” Elie Wiesel wrote in a prologue to his 1973 translation of the prayer. Chellie Booth, who leads the class, says audience members “will be angry at, uncomfortable with and extremely moved by the Elie Wiesel English translation.”

The performance is free but donations will be accepted for Shoah education in local public schools. For more information, call 327-4501.
