Harvey Evenchik

Harvey Burton Evenchik, 82, died Sept. 5, 2011.
Born in Elyria, Ohio, Mr. Evenchik graduated from the University of Arizona in 1951. He returned to Ohio to attend Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, where he received his master’s degree in business and also started his first business. Mr. Evenchik returned to Tucson in 1959. He began Chateau, Inc., which included apartment buildings and a rental business that later would evolve into Parties Plus. Mr. Evenchik also launched Western Realty Company, Chateau Travel, and Park & Fly, among other businesses. Mr. Evenchik was a member of the Pima Community College Advisory Board, American Society of Travel Agents, Pacific Area Travel Association, Arizona Multihousing Association, Hotel Sales Management Association, director of Southern Arizona Innkeepers Association, President of Skal International, president of Alpha Kappa Psi Alumni Association, Southern Arizona Homebuilders Association, Tucson Area Realtors Association, and Tucson Jewish Community Center board. He and his wife established the Harvey and Deanna Evenchik Foundation, which has made philanthropic contributions supporting Jewish organizations, the arts, education and medical research. He was an avid supporter of the University of Arizona President’s Club and Wildcat Club.
Mr. Evenchik was preceded in death by his son, Clark. Survivors include his wife, Deanna; children, Arthur Evenchik of Phoenix, Lynn Evenchik of Tucson, Mark (Daphne) Evenchik of San Diego, Calif., and Whitney Evenchik of Tucson; daughter-in-law, Reena Evenchik of Israel; brother, Bernard (Susan) Evenchik of Tucson; sister, Elayne (Jerome) Feder of Tucson; and nine grandchildren.
Services were held at Congregation Anshei Israel with Rabbi Robert Eisen officiating. Interment followed in the Congregation Anshei Israel section of Evergreen Cemetery.
