Eileen Starr

Eileen F. Starr, 84, died March 15, 2011.
Born in Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Starr attended the University of Miami, where she met her husband, M. Lee Starr. After graduating, they moved to Tucson. Mrs. Starr taught in the Tucson Unified School District; the last 15 years of her teaching career were in the GATE (gifted and talented) sixth grade program. She and her husband were recently awarded the joint Ray Davies Lifetime Humanitarian Achievement Award from the Education Enrichment Foundation, where she served as a board member. A two-time cancer survivor, she also volunteered at the chemotherapy lab at the Arizona Cancer Center.
Mrs. Starr was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years,  M. Lee Starr. Survivors include her daughters, Marianne Starr and Lisa (Kevin) Burns, both of Tucson.
Graveside services were held in the Congregation Anshei Israel section of Evergreen Cemetery with Rabbi Robert Eisen and Rabbi Arthur R. Oleisky officiating.
