Congregation Chaverim will observe the first yahrzeit and celebrate the life of Karla Ember on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 9 a.m.
Ember was cantorial soloist at Chaverim. She died Sept. 8, 2010, after being attacked Sept. 3, 2010 by a man friends described as either her ex-husband or ex-boyfriend (see https://azjewishpost.com/?p=2937).
Along with her role at Chaverim, Ember was a music teacher at Tucson Country Day School and was co-director of the Tucson Jewish Youth Choir.
At the Sept. 11 event, the Chaverim congregation will honor Ember with song and, in a ceremony to be led by Rabbi Stephanie Aaron, she will be posthumously invested as a cantor under the auspices of the Union for Reform Judaism. For more information, call 320-1015.
