Lester Munday, 90, died April 27, 2011.
Born in New York, Mr. Munday served in the Pacific theater during World War II. He returned to sing professionally for New York’s Metropolitan Opera. After moving to upstate New York, he had a daily radio show. In 1961, he moved to Arizona. He owned two businesses in Tucson before he became bailiff of Arizona Superior Court for 17 years, appointed by Hon. Judge Lillian Fisher (ret.) upon her election in 1974. He became known for his character sketch drawings of many who entered Judge Fisher’s court. Mr. Munday was a chancellor of the Knights of Pythias of Arizona, a longtime member of the Jewish War Veterans Post 201, and a volunteer at the VA Hospital.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Laura Munday; children, Michael (Michele) Munday of Tucson, Heather (Stanley) Rykowski of Phoenix, and Kevin (Margaret) Munday of Tustin, Calif.; sister-in-law, Harriet Martin; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Interment was in Phoenix.
