Many faiths to take part in LGBT pride service

Beloved: A Multifaith Pride Service to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and two-spirit communities, will be held Thursday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El.

Co-sponsored by the Wingspan Multifaith Working Group and the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona’s LGBT Jewish Inclusion Project, the service will include participation by Rabbi Samuel M. Cohon and cantorial soloist Marjorie Hochberg along with spiritual leaders from a variety of faith communities.

Performances will include singer/ songwriter Namoli Brennet and the choirs of the Metropolitan Community Church and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Green Valley. There will be reflections on the theme of being beloved and a sermon by Claire Yarborough of St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church.

Clergy members will offer individual prayers or blessings at the conclusion of the service. A reception will follow.

“Service goers are welcomed to dress with Pride spirit,” says Marc Paley, LGBT Jewish Inclusion Project coordinator, who notes that this is the second annual multifaith pride service held in Tucson in conjunction with Pride Weekend.

Childcare will be provided.
