Captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit marked his 24th birthday — his fifth in captivity — on Aug. 28. The Tucson Jewish Community Center is collecting birthday and new year’s cards for Shalit, in partnership with the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Magen David Adom (Israel’s “Red Cross”) and the JCC Association.
Cards may be dropped off at the JCC welcome desk. All messages and cards will be delivered to the International Committee of the Red Cross with the demand that Hamas allow the ICRC to visit and deliver the messages to Shalit in accordance with international humanitarian law.
The Conference has also launched a new website, www.giladgreetings.org, to provide people around the world a vehicle to express their solidarity with Shalit.
