The Tucson International Jewish Film Festival will present a sneak preview of “Jews and Baseball: An American Love Story” on Sunday, Nov. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Tucson Jewish Community Center. The festival runs Jan. 20-30, 2011.
“Jews and Baseball” explores the contributions of Jewish major leaguers and the special meaning baseball has had in the lives of American Jews. More than just a sports movie, it is “a story of immigration, assimilation, bigotry, heroism, the passing on of traditions and the shattering of stereotypes,” according to the website, www.jewsandbaseball.com.
Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times reporter Ira Berkow, the film is narrated by Academy Award winner Dustin Hoffman. It features a rare interview with Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax plus many other players, executives, writers and famous fans.
“Jews and Baseball” will be the first film shown in the JCC’s new Media Arts Center. The auditorium now features a high-def 6,000 lumen video projection system, 800 watts of sound and a 363-square-foot cinema screen.
Box seats are $125 and include the film, food, VIP seating and a film festival season pass. Grandstand admission is $25 and includes the film, food and grandstand seating. Tickets can be purchased at the JCC or by calling 615-5432.
