SandRuby Adds Secure Space for New Program

As an adult community day program and part of the Handmaker Family of Services, SandRuby Community Programs has been providing care for adults, and respite for their caregivers, for many years. The program moved to its current location, a beautifully remodeled 6,000 square foot clubhouse, in May of 2016, and has recently undergone some additional renovations to create a dedicated space for the new Memory Impaired Program (MIP).

Construction of a secured area at SandRuby for the MIP was completed in April. According to Handmaker CEO, Elie Pollak, “we have made provisions to accommodate adults suffering from dementia who may be considered a ‘wander risk’ and can now provide a safe and controlled environment so that our day care program can appeal to a wider array of adults with various underlying conditions.”

Program areas for the developmentally disabled and the elderly residents have also been separated in order to better accommodate their differing needs.

SandRuby Program Manager, Carmeen Arias, is grateful to have been able to make these small changes at SandRuby, which she believes will make a big difference. “We are happy to expand our programs and be able to provide respite for those whose loved ones are memory impaired and need a watchful eye. We are here to assist and care for your loved ones while you rest, run errands, attend appointments, work, or take care of other needs.”

SandRuby is open from 7am-6pm, Monday through Friday. Members can enjoy a safe, social environment where they are surrounded by friends and highly trained and loving staff, with a wide array of daily activities to choose from. Members can work with tablets, computers, and color printers to build their technology skills; take classes in the ceramics studio and have their projects fired in the kiln; learn life skills like making a bed, setting the table, or working in the hands-on kitchen; take day trips out into the community; and much more.
