Shifrette Cohen

Shifrette (Shiffy) Diana Cohen, 84, died Sept. 14, 2015.

Born in Chicago, Mrs. Cohen graduated from Marshall High School in 1948. She met and married her husband, Bob Cohen, in 1951. She was a teacher and administrator in Jewish education at Anshe Emet and Solomon Schechter day schools in Chicago. The Cohens moved to Tucson in 1976 where Mrs. Cohen was the founding director of the Tucson High School for Jewish Studies (Hebrew High), where she worked for over a decade. She served in the Halevi Choral Society in Chicago and taught Jewish music in Tucson. Mrs. Cohen was a long-time member of Congregation Anshei Israel and Pioneer Women, as well as an active supporter of the State of Israel.

Mrs. Cohen was preceded in death by her son Jeremy. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Bob Cohen; children, Avi (Susan) Cohen of Toronto and David (Ayelet) Cohen of Los Angeles; daughter-in-law, Marscee Ryaby of Scottsdale; brother, Morrie (Annette) Bode of Tel Aviv; and 11 grandchildren.

Services were held at Congregation Anshei Israel with Rabbi Robert Eisen officiating. Interment followed in the Congregation Anshei Israel section of Evergreen Cemetery.
