ot-B HoltzmanThe TUCSON JEWISH COMMUITY CENTER announced its 2014-15 board of directors at its annual meeting on May 13. BARNEY HOLTZMAN, managing director of Tucson law office Fennemore Craig, will be board chair. Holtzman, who has served on the JCC board since 2000, is also a board member of Ben’s Bells. Other incoming board members are Barry Baker, Rachel Green, Gabby Levy and Noah Pensak.

ot-Rabbi AppelrbgRABBI BATSHEVA APPEL will take on the role of rabbi educator at TEMPLE EMANU-EL as of July 1, taking over the leadership of the Kurn Religious School. Appel has been associate rabbi at Temple Emanu-El since July 2013 and has worked there with students of every age, from the Strauss Early Childhood Center to the Adult Education Academy.

DOWNTOWN TUCSON PARTNERSHIP, Main Gate Square, Mercado San Agustin and the 4th Avenue Merchants Association have issued “Connect in the City,” a discount card that can save consumers up to 50 percent at participating merchants along the streetcar line. FLETCHER MUSIC CENTERS is kicking off a new series of classes for seniors beginning Thursday, July 3. The series is called “conductorMAGIC” and no prior musical experience is required. Participants will learn to play music using a keyboard-styled instrument, without the rigors of formal training.

Kosher popcorn from KETTLE HEROES LLC, a gourmet local Arizona popcorn company, is now available at several Tucson Bashas’ supermarkets. Under the kosher supervision of Rabbi Mendy Deitsch of Chabad of the East Valley in Chandler, Ariz., Kettle Heroes has kosher-pareve and kosher-dairy flavors.
