Bet Shalom starting Jewish Cub Scout pack

Congregation Bet Shalom is forming Cub Scout Pack 613. The pack will accept boys ages 6 to 10 and a half of any religious affiliation, but it will be a Jewish pack, observing all Jewish holidays and kosher laws. The pack will be directed by Frank Youdelman, who has been involved in scouting for many years and is a recipient of the Shofar and Silver Beaver awards from the Boy Scouts of America.

“The Boy Scouts and the Cub Scouts are very excited to have a Jewish group,” says Bet Shalom’s Cantor Avraham Alpert, who explains that other religious groups in town have scout groups, but there has been a void in the Jewish community.

An open house will be held at Bet Shalom on Sunday, Aug. 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Youdelman may be contacted at youdel@aol.com or 465-7625.
